Political Party Power Rankings
Dems 8.5 | GOP 1.5 - Way to go Limbaugh
Way back in October, Democratic Strategists James Carville and Stanley Greenberg took full advantage of the GOP power vacuum and gave the Republican Party a face. Even though it’s not their party, they were still able to get it done. Who’s ugly mug did they choose? Rush Limbaugh. Why Rushbo? Because polling shows that independents and moderates can’t stand the guy.
And for good reason. The guy is about as charming as a fart in a hot shower.
So the Dems tried to hitch the GOP’s wagon to Rush like President Bush tried to do with Iraq and 9/11. Rush was his predictable self and loved every second of the attention. Every time the President or someone in his administration mentioned his name, linking him to the GOP, Rush was all over it on his show. I bounce around on the AM radio side every once in awhile and I’ll stop on Rush to see what he’s up to. Trust me, he was digging the attention.
Then there’s GOP Chairman, Michael Steele, who had to apologize to Rush after calling him “an entertainer” and “incendiary.” Steele fell right into the trap the Democrats had set, giving Rush more power than before. The new Chairman of the GOP was Apologizing to a radio talk show host? Who’s running the party?
The answer: No one really. But it sure seems like Rush is at or near the top.
By linking the two in a bolder fashion, Carville and Greenberg have effectively painted the GOP and Rush into a corner. It’s genius. What can either of them do? The GOP can’t aggressively break ties with the man. He speaks for a good chunk of their base. And Rush isn’t going to step off the gas… he knows that this is only going to get him more listeners. And when it comes down to the GOP or Rush, you know Rush is going to favor Rush.

For now it looks like the two will have an uncomfortable partnership thanks to the planning of the Democrats. Just like a man who hung an anchor around someone already treading water.
