1. 1 in 7 Gitmo Detainees head to Terrorism (again) once released - Well… so six don’t? Meanwhile, the Obama Administration seems to be admitting that there are some guys in Gitmo that if they shut it down, they still don’t want them out tramping around the world doing whatever it is they do… but they also can’t try them in any real court. So holding them indefinatly might be an option. Eeesh, no due process, stuck in limbo for forever.
That’s a bit sticky. (from Hot Air)
2. Four guys arrested in Bronx Terrorist plot – Their plan was to blow up some synagogues and shoot down a plane with a stinger missile, but they were going to get the plastic explosives and stinger from FBI agents who were under cover. The Feds gave em’ fake plastic and arrested them. (From the NY Times)
3. Decorated Air Force Pilot whom the US has invested $25 million in gets the boot… because he’s (gasp) GAY - We’re a backwards country in
a lot of ways. Let the guy love whoever he wants to love and also defend the country he loves. And forget the money thing. Yes that’s an attempt to make the far right stand up and take notice of this. But really, that shouldn’t even have to be a factor. He’s a gay man who wants to and has already served in the the military with excellence. What does his sexual orientation have anything to do with his ability? What if somebody came up with the cure for cancer, but they were gay gay gay. GAY GAY GAY. Would that prevent some straighty from hailing that person as an absolute genius and hero? If that’s the case, then those who wouldn’t cheer as loud because that individual was GAY GAY GAY GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY… should really take a few minutes to think about the choices that they make, and not the non-choices that some, born a certain way, can’t make since they have no choice. Gay. (From the Huffington Post)
4. The War on Drugs is a failure. But DON’T YOU DARE CHANGE ANYTHING – The war on drugs isn’t working. But no one has made any serious attempts to change our drug policy. Why? (From Foreign Policy Magazine)
5. It’s National Waitstaff Day, so tip well for crying out loud - You should be tipping well anyway. If you’re lucky enough to have never worked in the food service industry (like me) you should REALLY be tipping well. A dollar a drink at a bar, at least 15% if the service is good at a restaurant. 20% or more if it was really good and the server was memorable. Don’t like trying to figure it out? It’s easy. Move the decimal point, double it, and that’s 20%. Or, move the decimal point, cut it in half, then add to the figure you had when you moved the decimal point. Lemme show you.
Bill: $52.67
Move the decimal point over one: $5.26 (That’s now 10%)
Double: $5.26 x 2 = $10.52 ***That’s 20%
Halve it and add it: %5.26 / 2 = 2.63 + 5.26 = $7.89 ***That’s 15%
Just round up to $11 and $8 respectively. Even if you’re using plastic. Life’s too short to be counting pennies when you’re out. (From Esquire)
