Palin to step down

1. Sarah Palin to Resign as Governor of AlaskaWhat in the Hell is that all about?  Her supporters say it’s to prepare for a 2012 Presidential Run.  Her Critics say she’s just nuts.  And the FBI issues a statement saying they ARE NOT investigating her for embezzlement.  Thank you FBI… Where there’s smoke there’s fire.  But is it a raging inferno of kinda crazy but in the end brilliant political shrewdness?  Or did Sarah Palin just self-immolate her career?  Probably the latter.

3. One Hell of a Wimbledon - Despite Roddick’s monster serve being unhittable… Roger Federer manages to break Andy’s serve just once and goes on to win his 15th Grand Slam Title: 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14. 30 games in the final set?  Good Grief.  Federer was on the Ropes in the second set tie break when Roddick cracked and Roger won six straight points.  Despite NBC showing Andy Roddick’s swimsuit model wife ad nasuem wearing some sort of Karate outfit / trench coat hybrid… Roddick can’t get his second grand slam.  I’ll be honest, I know it was 4th of July weekend but I was rooting for Federer.  Call me unpatriotic but Federer has a ton of class and before winning the French it seemed like he might have been on the way out.  He’s now the all time grand slam champ with 15.  (From the NY Times)

4. Former NFL Quarterback Steve McNair Murdered - The former Houston Oiler/Tennessee Titan/Baltimore Raven was found in a downtown Nashville Condo shot twice in the head and twice in the chest.  His 20-yr-old girlfriend was also found shot dead, from a single shot, laying at his feet.  To make things even more complicated, McNair was married with four kids.  (From Si.com)

5. Outside Magazine’s Summer Buying GuideBecause it takes some gear to get out and see the world.  By the way, if you’re looking for good stuff on the cheap… it’s hard to beat Sierra Trading post.  I need a pair of light hikers for this weekend… got a $110 pair of Merril’s for $30 on their super-clearance bargain barn rack.  My $100 Brooks Running Shoes also usually cost about $65 there.
