1. Sure it’s a nice idea, but we can’t pay for it - That should be the consensus. Forget death panels and socialized medicine fear mongering… President Obama’s Health-care Reform proposal is a nice idea, but there’s just no way to pay for the public option. Instead, ease off the gas, and find something somewhere in between. So-called entitlement programs are already threatening to sink the finances of the United States. Creating another with the intent on this one saving the system, would run the risk of throwing a life jacket to our drowning budget, but then realizing at the last moment you tied bricks to the life preserver. If lawmakers really do agree on 80 – 90% of the legislation… then they need to get to work and get something done. (From the Fort Worth Star Telegram)
2. Queens Terrorism Raid Suspect looking for Chem/Bio/Radiological Stuff? – The guy the authorities were looking for… wasn’t there. But had been there in the last week. Good news is, after they knocked the door down, the agents were “very respectful.” My question is: So who puts the door back up? Do they write a check? Do they send over a contractor later that afternoon to fix it? Or are the renters in the apartment S.O.L.? (From the Wall Street Journal and New York Times)
3. President Bush: “I redefined the Republican Party” - Yes he did. And the GOP is still recovering. A new book from one of President George W. Bush’s speechwriters has some very interesting quotes. One of which has the President completely calling his shot, and being right, as far as John McCain and Sarah Palin and their nightmare of a presidential campaign. (From Hot Air)
4. Self-Erasing Paper. A high-tech etch-a-sketch - Believe it or not, there’s a market out there for paper that once you write on it, the ink totally disappears in a few hours. It’s kind of like a microscopic self shaking etch-a-sketch… only it requires gold, silver, and a helluva-lotta science. (From the Economist)
5. Federer Loses US Open. To someone other than Raphael Nadal – Well, the guy KINDA looks like Rapha with his hands over his face… (See Pic in article, from Si.com)
