2 It’s not TOTALLY because the President is Black - I don’t think the teabaggers, rightwingers, and Glenn Beck disciples are so feverishly anti-Obama because they’re racist.  I truly believe that they aren’t, or… well… at least most of them aren’t.  But I couldn’t quite put my finger on WHY that group is so afraid of our President.  Alex Pareene from Gawker nails it dead on: “it’s also because he represents the emergence of an urban elite/black/immigrant/gay/poor coalition that poses a threat to the rural/suburban white Christians who’ve been told for a century that they are Real America, making this guy who is patently not a member of that group a False American.“  Yep.  That’s it.  The franchised, is all of a sudden… feeling quite a bit disenfranchised.  (From Gawker)

4. The many books on how to be a man – Reviews  a collection of books that offer tips to guys on how to be a gentleman.  Sure they can be fun, but…  Step 1 in learning how to be a real man = Don’t depend on a book to tell you what to do.  (From Slate)

5. Double Standard For Serena Williams? – Ummm… no.  Roger Federer didn’t describe precisely what he wanted to do to the person he had a disagreement with.  Ms. Williams told a puny little line judge that she wanted to shove a ball down her F’ing throat.  Dick Enberg had it dead on when he said Federer’s swearing wasn’t nearly as “venomous.”  If Serena would have been a man would the backlash have been just as bad?  Probably not as bad.  It’s more shocking when a woman makes that big of an ass out of herself.  That’s correct.  But I think it’s less that we expect more from Women, and more that we expect so much less from men.  If that makes any sense at all.  (From The Nation)
